In May 2014, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady traveled to Houston for a Best Buddies benefit event, which raised more than $850,000. Joining hosts Anthony Kennedy Shriver and Becca Cason Thrash, Mr. Brady fielded questions from fans and sat at the dinner table with prominent donors from the Houston area. An honorary co-chair of the Best Buddies Challenge bike ride in Hyannis Port, Mr. Brady has worked with the organization for many years and enjoys creating opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Guests at the Best Buddies benefit dined on a ruby shrimp dish from Reef chef Bryan Caswell and a Wagyu beef main course from Nara chef Donald Chang. The event also included a charity auction, which generated large donations for the international nonprofit organization. Items up for bid included a luxurious yacht trip, multiple vacations to France, assorted luxury goods, and a spot on the field with Tom Brady at a charity football game in Hyannis Port.
